Marissa Alma Nick

WRITER / ARTIST / ACTIVIST

I’m a queer writer drawn to stories of desire, repression, power, and survival - especially where women are told to stay quiet. I began my artistic career as a choreographer, founding the all-female Alma Dance Theater and creating immersive work rooted in women’s lived experience. That background continues to shape my writing: I’m deeply attuned to how emotion lives in the body, how trauma moves and settles, and how physical sensation can carry meaning when language fails.

My debut self-published novel, Rebel in Venus, solidified my commitment to writing and established the emotional core of my work. I’m currently writing the second book in my Emma-Jean series, which examines inherited repression, institutional control, and feminine power across generations. Across every medium I work in, my writing centers queer identity, mental health, and women’s autonomy - confronting shame as a tool of control and insisting on truth as an act of resistance.
